Mandelbrot Fractal as metaphor for
understanding the nature
of God
In this video I explore the properties of the mathematical fractal object called the Mandelbrot set. I show that the Mandelbrot set is an infinitely detailed and complex object which is encapsulated by a simple succinct mathematical equation. And that this seeming universe of form, pattern and beauty derives from an amazingly compact description. I then discuss the notion of Mathematical or Platonic existence. Following from this I put forward the assertion that the nature of the existence of the physical Universe is the same as the nature of Platonic or Mathematical existence. Also pointing out that many distinguished people have noted, throughout history, a close and mysterious relationship between the physical Universe and mathematics, such as Pythagoras, Galileo, Newton and more recently the Nobel prize winning physicist Eugene Wigner.
Later I discusss how the Mandelbrot set and the notion of Mathematical existence, allows us to not just see what is behind the illusion of physical reality but also how it allows us to gain insight into the notion of Enlightenment which we take to be the experience of union with God and the realization of our true nature.
